About ADEPT Programs

ADEPT Programs was started in 1978 and found by its current director, Angel Colon. ADEPT stands for “Adult Developmental Educational Provocation Training” - our company strives to help adults with developmental disabilities.

We help adults with developmental disabilities, including the mentally retarded population. We currently oversee six programs in Burlington County, NJ. Our organization pro

vides supervised living and community-based cooperative living accommodations so that these adults can live along with society today, and live their lives to the fullest.

We believe that it is not helping society to institutionalize the mentally retarded population, rather, give their life meaning and help build the foundation to help them lead enriched and rewarding lives.

ADEPT Programs provides opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to live and work in the community alongside other members of society. It is the most cost-effective program in the DDD system, focusing the majority of its resources on the needs of its participants.

About Our Director, Angel Colon

Our director, Angel Colon, started ADEPT Programs in January 1978, with five other people whose goal was to help to de-institutionalize the Developmentally Disabled and Mentally retarded population

He was working along with others in the mentally retarded population and he saw a need for someone to reach out to these individuals. Many of these people were living in an institutional-type of setting and were not leading as productive of a life that they were capable of.

Angel saw the need to have some time spent either one on one or in a group and started his first program to begin to enrich their lives and to place the adults in a home-like setting but to not be institutionalized.

Many of these people had the desires to learn and be more independent in their lifestyles, they just did not have the opportunities available to them.

They receive opportunities to be educated in many different ways and have interactions with their peers and to build meaningful relationships to lead fuller and more productive lives. The adults within our programs have the opportunities to secure employment and build professional relationships. One program at a time, Angel expanded A.D.E.P.T. Programs, Inc. and made safe and secure living for each person placed within our programs. Our staff supports and assists in their lives being functional and happy. Each individual has a purpose and goals in life to work towards on a daily basis. They are encouraged to participate in leisure activities and to make use of community resources commensurate with their individual desires and abilities. Goals will be determined individually and realistically so that they are able to succeed.
